Day 4

Ahh god, woke up way later than I was supposed to today. I literally had no morning to enjoy today and the rest of my day just passed by in a daze. I've been getting annoying headaches for the past two days, and it's really starting to get me down. Thank god the outside is always open to me or I would DIE of boredom.

Yesterday night I played that old game again, fun times except no one face planted on a line of mud this time. D:

My headache was really getting me down, so I got off the computer and ended up reading "You Don't Know Me". To my pleasant surprise, it was a damn good book. With a hilarious voice and really dark humour, the book was an easy read but a deep one at the same time. Although it's not on the bestsellers lists, I really, really enjoyed this book.

Travel Log

Day 2:

Sorry this post is late, but I stayed up until 2AM last night at a party so I really didn't have the time or energy to log it all. I had to travel large distances to get to the party, taking the painstaking trip of about forty steps to my neighbours house. But heck, it was worth it. The food was great, shame the only alcohol there was wine so I ended up chugging cream sodas(Taste like CRAP) all night. We ended up playing Manhunt for the first time in over a year, it was fun as hell and brought back so many memories. I jumped over the piss filled ditch and watched as my peruser ate the dirt when they slipped on the mud, ahh good times.... I revisited all my child hood memories, the heat of a chase, jumping through a bush twice your height to slam into your victim, all the memories come back.

I miss being a kid.

Travel Log(Blog?)

Day 1: The Card Of Gods.

Had to wake up frigging early(8AM, on VACATION? God...) to get my diplomatic status renewed. We drove to Casco Viejo and as always, I was amazed at the difference between the ex-zone and the outside. Literally as soon as you crossed over, the green, lush grass and the tidy houses turned into filthy streets and run down buildings. It's sad, it's pathetic, but it's Panama. When I got closer to the center of the area where all the houses are renewed it started to remind me of where I lived in Brazil, Sao Luis. Parking, as in all places in Panama, was a bit of a bitch, but we got a space.

For those of you not familiar with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here in Panama, I"m just going to say one thing.
They have a really, really nice place to work in. Their headquarters is in one of the many palaces in the district, and it is pretty big. There is a huge square with a Christmas tree only outdone by the one they always put up in Albrook Mall in the middle of it. They have possibly the nicest ocean view from any of the ministries, and have a pretty clear view at that multi million dollar island they are building far out on the coast of the city.

When we finally stopped gaping at the view and the place itself, we went up to get our cards...
That's when me and Evert got caught off guard.
Although it was only our FIRST day off, we had already lost the proper use of our hands, so when we did have to sign something our terrible handwriting was twice as bad. But hey, at least it's renewed.

Diplomatic status can get you just about anything in Panama, you avoid taxes on everything, and can get out of any minor crime just by showing your card. Your car CANNOT be given a ticket, and a whole bunch of other fun bonuses too. Although my family doesn't really abuse those privileges, we always like to keep it, it IS our Visa, after all.*

After going to the National Museum for the first time since I went there in January 2006, we drove back home. The renovated part of Casco Viejo really reminds me of Sao Luis, which was an beautiful city. Shame there are so many friggin cars and idiots on the streets, I swear I saw some kid looking into car windows for something to steal, he wasn't even being subtle about it, he was just shoving his head on the window to look through. Brazilians never got CAUGHT doing that, I mean really, Panamanian thieves could really learn a lot from Brazilians. Only difference is, this area isn't half as beautiful as Sao Luis and it isn't really a restaurant area like the old part of town was back in Brazil.

Here's what I'm talking about:

I guess us beautiful people come from beautiful places.

*Note: You dont actually have to have anything to do with being a diplomat to get this status, UN and just about every NGO gets this.

Holden Clinical Report

Nicholas Brands Smit
December 11, 2010
Mrs. Meadows
English Period A-B

Department of Psychological Trauma
Churchill Medical Center, New Jersey

Statement Of Problem

Holden Caulfied was seen at the Department of Psychological Trauma at W. Churchill Therapeutic Institution for the mentally disabled for a psychoanalysis and possible treatment. He was referred by his parents. Although nearly of legal age, the client was accompanied to the institution by his father, Mr. Caulfield. He wants to gain information about any trauma that Holden may be experiencing, Mr. Caulfield stated that it was vital to find out the cause of Holden's depression as well as the possible treatment of it. He is suffering from depression and is lacking in work, he does not try in school and has disturbing views on the world according to his family. The following is the summary of results based on the case history, patent interview, assessment results and observations obtained before or during the evaluation.

Case History:
The following information was gathered from Holden's families' interviews and his history form:

Birth History
Medical History
School Performance
Behavioural Issues

Holden Caulfied was the result of a regular full term pregnancy, both parents have no record down their family line of reoccurring medical issues concerning mental health. With absolutely no newborn difficulties that the parents and siblings can recall. He isn't taking in enough carbs, despite the diet a previous doctor recommended to him. Holden was never psychoanalysed or bought to a therapist, yet when he was thirteen years old he was submitted to a hospital after he de-figured his hands whilst breaking windows. He was released from hospital after his brother's funeral. Holden didn’t have any mental or fine motor issues from an early age. His family has noted that he talked about Allie Caulfield (his deceased brother) as he if Allie was still alive. Holden dropped out from Whooton school, and was expelled from Pencey prep, along with other school in which he did not do well in. Initial examinations indicate that his brothers death might be the cause of his insanity, along with his other symptoms.

Behavioral Observations:

When first approached, Holden seemed almost eager to start talking, and almost immediately jumped into conversation with the analyst. Although Holden seemed stable at the beginning of the conversation, he began to completely avoid important topics and digress and seemed overjoyed when the analyst didn't interrupt him. Holden's conversation quickly deteriorated to endless blabber coated in high doses of pessimism. It was deemed that there was in fact something very wrong with Holden Caulfield. An expert psychoanalyst noted that behind Holden's seemingly harmless talk was riddled with hidden disturbing thoughts on society and the world around him. His nervous breakdown was built up over many years, not just the past few months. He eagerly engaged into conversation on a daily basis, but in the first few weeks he would completely ignore our attempts to speak to him about his actions over the Chirstmas season and his brother Alllie, and would digress shortly after he started talking about it. Only much later in the treatment process were we able to speak freely with him.

There are no remarkble medical records on Holden apart from the glass breaking incident soon after his youngest brothers death. There is a lolshake in the yard.

When evaluated he spoke for more than three hours with few interruptions, describing from his point of view the events of the last Christmas break. Holden proved to be in a worse condition than previously expected. He had had many a breakdown on his trip back home, and could have been traumatized in that short amount of time in which he was out of the safe keeping of school or home. He has two living siblings , Phoebe Caulfield and D.B Caulfield. His deceased brother, Allie Caulfiel, was referred too the most, which is worrying considering he has been dead for years.

Summary and Recommendations:

From the information we gathered, it would be proper to say that Holden's problems started after his brother, Allie Caulfield, died at the age of ten from Leukaemia. After his brothers death, Holden suffered from anger, denial and grief. Holden Caulfield suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, which explains all of his symptoms( Trouble sleeping, detachment, socialization issues, irritability) minus pneumonia, which was caused by extreme cold after he left a bar soaking wet in mid winter. He feels guilt and regret over his actions over the Christmas break, and although extensive treatment has helped him cope, he is still unsure whether he will apply himself next school term. It is recommended that his high carbs diet is reinforced and that he checks in for progress every few months. He needs supervision, and when he does go to school it is recommended that it be in the New York or New Jersey state, considering it is closer to home and near to the clinic. He has been written down for extra treatment over the next break, but he is on a waiting list and it can not be guaranteed.

Drinks, Cigarrete's, and Dirty Liars.

Holden encounter

He was hitting on the bartender's daughter, the idiot. Well, less so hitting on her and more so trying to complete a coherent sentence through his drunken stupor. He wasn't really even being dirty, he was just a half drunk kid flirting with that flitty tone of voice that always makes my hands curl into fists. Unfortunately for him, the bartender tends to have quite an unpleasant disposition when this kind of thing happens. I got up, time to do my good deed of the day.
“C'mon buddy, let's get you out of here,” I told him. He looked at me as if I had just spoken a foreign language, then he managed to get up and stumble towards the door. Too bad he didn't fall over in the process, because people's suffering tends to be entertaining. I eventually sat back down and took a sip out of my coke( this local's place can be strange, you have the adults doing their usual stone drunk acts and then you have teenagers just hanging out for the heck of it). Kid's drink soda, adults get wasted, occasionally some kid comes along and thinks he's old enough to handle alcohol. The drunkard stumbled back in a good half hour later, looking slightly more sober than he was before, he was holding his head though, he was obviously hung over. He was smoking a cigarette, and now that his face wasn’t covered in the depression and the foul stench of rum you could see how young he really was.
“Hey, aren't you a little young to be getting wasted?” I asked.
“Well, the bartender served me and what is your problem?” he spat back at me.(and we wonder why our generation has such a crap reputation...)

Then he put this ridiculous red hunting hat on his head, a pointless thing to do considering the bar was heated.
“Look, the bartender is still pissed, and don’t you think you should get over your first hangover before getting drunk again?”
“I'll be fine” he responded
No, your audacity is going to cost you a few teeth you stubborn bastard. I grimaced as he walked by, this wasn't going to be pretty. First thing the idiot did? Be an drunk idiot, he was already drinking again. Had he no inking this was a bad idea? I sat down and started talking to a group of my friends, but the whole time I was watching him with the corner of my eye. God, what a loser. He obviously couldn’t handle drinks too well because he was drunk extremely quickly. He had embarked on the journey towards getting his ass kicked.
Then his journey came to a abrupt close. He did it when he started admiring to this one bimbo babe-who was for the record, with a guy at the time-that for some reason always gets irritated when her slutty clothes attract attention. Her boyfriend's endeavours at a peaceful departure were obviously hapless, the drunkard was just too drunk. The bartender saw the tension rising, and started getting paper towels out. When the idiot made a grab for the bimbo's most interesting zone(which I admit, was very interesting) the inevitable happened. Damn, remind me to stay away from that girl, her boyfriend packs one hell of a punch.
The bartender quickly checked if he needed to send the kid back home clad in a body bag, stood up and smiled, then dragged him out of the bar in a cursory manner. He was filling up a bucket for anyone who wanted to wake the idiot up. Then this Asian-American looking kid with his hair way too long made a dive for the wallet that the bartender had left lying on the floor. Such affability in this bar.

I gave him a look that could make the Sahara dessert freeze over.

Then he scurried away. I walked over and picked it up.
“Holden Caulfield” Never heard of him, and that's weird in a town like this a good 100 miles out of New York. He isn't local.
I walked outside to Holden with the bucket.
I don't think I'll ever really get over the face that someone makes when ice cold water is dumped onto their face, it's hilarious.
“Hey, get somewhere to rest and just stay there for the night, your nose could be broken” I told him.
“Thanks! Would you like to have a cocktail with me? My names Rick St-”
“No, no it isn't” I cut him off, then I threw him his wallet and walked away.

What can you C? (Plus)

What can you C? (Plus)

I pilfer privileges now.
I can't do much,
Because I was lackadaisical,
Because I didn't try.

What do teachers think,
When they C me?
They tell me they C,
A smart, intelligent student,
But one that doesn't produce,
And that I've got an attitude,
That I'm audacious
That my work is slovenly.

So most of my stuff,
Confiscated,
My Ipod,
My freedom,
Plus
My time.

Teachers tell me that I have,
To embark,
On a journey to cross the line,
Problem is, I've been on that
ship for the past four years,
And it holds no more profusion of treasure,
Than the easy way out.
So I mutiny,
I turn the ship around.
And I cross the line,
Back to the other side.

Of course, it's never that simple,
Because life's a bitch.
When you have potential,
You just can't work as mainstream.
So teachers mail my parents,
Because I'm not giving my best.
And that I rankle them with my sarcastic tone.
They don't rebuke me in class though,
I can talk back without being rude.

In fact,
I am in a state of god-damn serenity
I just have to maintain my prudence
and turn in some work.
And I will cross that line,
For the hundredth time.

Note: Damn, too late to re-write this, so I'm gonna have to post as is. To be perfectly honest, I would have scrapped this and re-wrote the whole thing if I had time, but endless procrastination has led me, once again to having to post as is.

Gone (Wake series) Review

Gone by Lisa McMann

Review by Nicholas Brands Smit

GONE by Lisa Mcmann is the last book in the trilogy of the New York Times best selling series WAKE. This book deals with very interesting concepts about dreams, how we forget what happened, and in this case, how others remember. It follows a girl who has some very, very serious choices to make. The pressure from her friends and her survival instinct are crushing each other, about to destroy her mind. She needs to get away from it all, but her alcoholic mother would not be able to handle it. She is challenged with Morton's Fork, a dilemma when you have to choices and both options suck. The dreams that she is jumping into unwillingly are leaving her weaker and weaker, then her already crappy life is turned upside down when a man who Jane considers a stranger shows up for the first time in years. Her dreams are telling her things that are private to people, and completely change her opinion on them. Lisa Mcmann focuses on her struggles as Jane deals with an boyfriend distraught with indecision, and a mystery to be solved.

The WAKE series is interesting in the way that is unique, it's ideas on dreaming portrayed through the intriguing character of Jane make it's concepts easy to understand whilst allowing the reader to understand more profoundly the meanings behind it. Jane finds out more and more about herself and what she wants to do because other people's unspoken thoughts, which come out and haunt them in their worst nightmares. Instead of just focusing on the dreaming part or Jane's stereotypical social life, Lisa Mcmann mixes the two together with a perfect balance, making young adults able to relate whilst being drawn into a supernatural tale. Jane's seeming normal issues which most people go though can be mixed in with her dreaming problems solely because of this fact.
Although the last few books relied on classroom interactions and disasters caused by the semi-comatose state she went in when she is pullled into a dream, including car accidents and stunned patients in a hospital to keep the story moving along, this one relied on her boyfriend Cabel's and her father's troubling dreams to propel the story towards it's climax.
What's down right bad about it? In the other books, there was a large group of intresting protagonists, now it seems to only focus on Jane. Despite this, I like GONE... Yet not as much as the other two WAKE books.

Confession Tuesday: I confess.

Confession Tuesday

I hate writing about my family.
I really do. I'll write about anything, anything personal, except my family, because its unfair as hell. It's like talking behind someone's back, talking about a stranger like you know them. I only see my family across seas once every two years. I met some of my family for the first time ever only this vacation, parts of my family on my English side are actually missing. I haven't actually met most of my family and the ones I have had we can only share scarce moments with each other. The only three groups I really know are my grandparents on both sides and my aunt and uncle on my Dutch side. But that's about it. I feel like a bastard when I write about them, I have no right to, how can I dedicate a memoir to a stranger when I have do not have many memories to share with them..

To make things worse, if I DARE write about my brother and I put one, tiny little sarcastic comment. He goes crazy on me raging completely. Yet he doesn't seem to have any problems writing a post directly labelled at attacking me, isn't it great to have such a loving, caring brother?

Memoir: Papers, People.

We are all talking and screwing around, it's what our nature is, it's what we do. As of right now, there are three diferent groups in the class, the ones blatantly doing nothing, the ones pretending to work but still talking, and the ones actually doing what they are supposed to. None of us know it at the time, but quite a few of our names are on a "list".

Yet there is something strange about this list, there are a few names, a few names that were doing their work. And almost all of the group I was in that day, when we worked loudly and sometimes pretended to. Was free. I have no idea why. It's just that when you look around and you see people who did nothing wrong get yelled at, you have to feel sorry because it just as easily could have been you.

It could have been me. I have to remember that, we all do if we want to survive the 8th grade.

SOLT: Good Morning, I Feel Bad.

SOL; Morning, Remembering.
My eyes slowly open, I feel relieved that it's a Friday, sure I have a basketball game that I really don't want to go to; but it's all over. I rise slowly, happily, start off my day on the right foot. As I bring my foot down I step right on my backpack, then I remember. “Oh crap”.

It's pitch black as I slowly walk my way across my parents room towards my laptop, which my dad has been confiscating at nine-thirty every night because of my bad grades. Bad grades mainly because of moments like these, when I have to rush to finish everything. I sneak back to my room and flip open the screen, I open Facebook to get the science stuff and I rush to work. I had promised to work on this, so I was going to. I've always felt much more responsible when I am in a group, like I HAVE to finish the work, no matter what, so I will. I've got a lot of stuff to do, but my advantage over my team-mates is that I am much better at English, therefore I can write nearly nothing but make it sound profound and thorough (kinda like what I'm trying to do right now).

Finished, it's taken me only twenty minutes, but it's all good. Thank god I did one of the chemical reactions last night. Only one problem though, what do I do to pass the time now? I go on Skype, just to check what idiocies had gone down and then I see it. A link, a link to Miguel's blog.
Blog, blog, blog, blog, blog. Why did I have the feeling I was forgetting something? Then, for the hundredth time this morning, I remembered.

Wordly Wise Wednesday: Real Music.

Ok, so when I read some of the utter crap that people posted yesterday, all the fun stuff about Lindsay having a rough time. I was more than surprised. I thought this grade had grown up, guess what? I was wrong. People obviously have never listened to the lyrics in one of Lohan's songs and thought “WHAT THE HELL AM I SINGING ALONG TO?”, people just jump on the bandwagon because of MTV( Which should change it's name to Reality TV, because nothing but crappy reality shows like Jersey Shore are broadcasted anymore)and then suddenly it's the biggest hit. Well at least she is a crappy, yet independent “musician”. This age, is the age of stupid, the age when people listen to “music” by Disney. I know I wasn't alive back then, but I don't think twenty years back people listened to the Mickey Mouse Theme for their own entertainment. Do you think people would stroll around with their Sony Walkman's going “Duuuuude, this song is soooo chill!!!”? Over the years, I have grown a profound hatred towards theses talentless auto tuning losers who get their fame by screwing stuff up. They should live in a recluse shack and be beaten every day so hard that the sound reverberates around the world for making such abhorrent music. Same thing is wrong with most celebrities now a days, leak a sex tape on purpose and the status quo gets tricked into believeing you are famous for a good reason. The singers... they write some of the most pointless, repetitive MEANINGLESS crap lyrics I have ever heard, and they don't even have decent guitar to make up for it.

For some reason signing about superficial stuff like getting high makes you epic. Deerrr. A lot of people get high, why is it special when a singer does? Is there something amiss with me, or do I just not want to take signers as role models and be surprised when they screw up.
Another thing I despise: Twitter. Why? Because it's the worlds best place for people with boring lives to catch up on the crappy celebrity bullshit. Lindsay: Going to jail! AGAIN! More money for me! Surprise, surprise, retards! Gahhh, I'm not saying I don't appreciate some of the music coming around now, yet pop disgusts me. It's all teeny crap with girls singing about being famous and going to night clubs and all that superficial, NORMAL, boring stuff.

I swear to god if I hear ANYONE playing Tik-Tok one more time, someones gonna get hurt.
And it isn't going to be me.

Confession Tuesday: To Myself, Because I am Just That Humble

I confess that the more angry you get, the more fun it is :D

People tell me I am too mean,
Too cynical, Too...
Too much of a douche,
Yet they say it in a more correct manner.

People reckon I'm too patronising,
(that means I treat them as if they're stupid).
They should realize
that I don't care.
Because everyone lives
in a glass house,
And when a stone comes flying back.
We act surprised..

Why do I do it?
'Cause you deserved it.
Well,
Maybe you didn't.
But I still had fun doing it.

So to all you people complaining
“To Nick, To Nick”;
I don't hate the messages,
Trust me,
I love it.

Because it gives me another chance
To call you out on a grammatical error,
On a post about my stinginess,
About grammar.

Then people whine and complain,
When I take a shot,
A shot for an open goal.
Because you all make it too easy.
I'll call you out on something stupid.

People need to realize,
In a world of freedom,
Freedom of speech,
Freedom of religion,
Freedom of press,
I should have the freedom.
The freedom to make fun of you.

Have a nice day,
Thank you.

Memoir Monday: Pain, Laziness, Idiocy.

Memoir Monday

I'm an idiot. I should have bought my gloves, but they were upstairs so I just headed straight out. I guess that makes me a lazy idiot. Gloves, gloves, gloves, why didn't I bring them? I don't know, but I guess it's too late to worry about that. I'm going way too fast and to make it worse... I was in crocs. I should have bought my shoes, but they were upstairs and they seemed just out of reach. I'm already regretting my decision. I swerve right, hoping to hit the curb and land on the grass, but then
I swerve back again when I see the dog excrement. Lazy idiots didn't pick it up; so now it coats the grass like some kind of screwed up snow. The hill that I am speeding down is growing ever more menacing and I am picking up speed, yet I am not ready to fling myself at “processed” dog food.. I'm in deep shit already, no need to make it literal.

Ugh, only one way to handle it now, I'm going to have to try running it. I know it won't work, but if I can make it to maybe the 3rd step my fall won't be that bad. I crouch down and brace myself, this is going to hurt. I jump off at full speed, and place my foot down, there is a ripping sound as my toes rip through the low quality croc, my feet slice across the sharp pebbles which coat the ground. I am bleeding already.

So, what does stupid Nick do? He lifts up his foot in pain, and he get impelled into a face first dive.
My hand cracks back as soon as I make a grab for the gravel; I half flip, half roll over as I hit the ground, feeling my skin get ripped off by the rock, I put my good foot down and manage to slide to a stop on my knee. I'm full of the usual small cuts you get from falling, put there is a large gash in my arm. Where the skin has peeled off. Worst part? It's right on the place where I took the full impact of a bike flip a few months back.. I curse and as usual, walk over to the curb so I can sit and feel sorry for myself. Yet no sympathy comes, only a hanging aura of disgust at my own idiocy.
Lazy,
Lazy,
Idiot.

December 31st

The Coke's taste burns then fades,
The caffeine is keeping me awake,
My brother is upstairs, asleep in the house.

There are explosions outside,
All different shapes and sizes,
Awe comes from the younger children.

A few are more than tipsy,
I can already tell that.
Even when the drink that I hold
Is not the drink that they worship.

Yet when I am offered a glass,
I take it; when there is a huge firework.
That everyone is scarred to set aflame.
I step forward with a lighter.

So when January first hits the clock,
I drink,then I set the bomb off.
A rain of fire, dashing lights,
It coats the block.

Th' Ashes fall like snowflakes,
Snowflakes which I have never seen.
Sharp whirs cut the night.
Before an explosion destroys my ears. Your ears

Green, Red, Blue lights;
Lights and laughter fill the sky
Yet compared to carnival,
This is but a lullaby.

When life gives you no
North or South you have to make believe,
That somehow it's better,
Better to be in between.

WW For Idiots.

Nicholas Brands Smit
7254 Av. Wright
Panama City, Panama
September 8, 2010
Dear Writers of WW

How's life? Mine is terrible, and to top it off, I have to use YOUR Worldy Wise Book 8 and instill the idea in my mind that these simple words are supposed to be new to me. Your anthology of writing done in a cursory manner has had me and my generation encompassed by stupidity for the past 5 years, you know how that feels? The worst part is that my teacher has a disposition to act as if we have never heard the words in our lives before! I have read the Gates Of Fire, The Afghan Campaign, and Tides Of War by Steven Pressfield, I know what a damn grimace is(When some Spartan guy gets his guts ripped out by a double spiked spear, he doesn't smirk)! And the word spontaneous is supposed to be new to us? I don't know how bad the education is up north, but if that is supposed to be new to a person whose first language is English, then it must be terrible.

Both of you, Kenneth Hodkinson and Sandra Adams can change this, for some UNKNOW reason schools respect your books, so you should try to save a retarted world.I think it is an imperative matter that your books be updated and modified, so your nation will be able to extricate itself from it's fame of being so... so stupid. This may be your last hope.

Best of luck,

Nicholas

Confession Tuesday

Confession Tuesday Tuesday, September 8 2010

1. Ever hit a car? I have, on two different occasions. BOTH were my fault, and one was a parked car.
2. The first time was a failure. I was talking to my brother while riding on my bike, we were speeding down the main road, then I swerve off and start telling my brother some sob story about my teacher being unfair and blah blah blah, then boom, I hit a parked car and smash right into the wind shield.
3. The second time was not all my fault, I lied. The idiot driving the car screwed you over. You are going down a hill on a skateboard, your friend Ludovico is ahead of you, your neighbour Alex is going much slower, and is still only half way down the hill. Then you see this idiot drive around the corner and STOP right in front of Eleanor's house, you swerve off to the left after you see Ludo smash into the car bumper, and you ramp up the curb onto the pavement, for the first time in ages, you land a flip. You get hit by Ludo's bamboo long-board right in the chest, and you get sent flailing off your board. You get up, ready to break the ****er's window who smashed into you. Then you get up, turns out the bastard isn't a bastard, but some lady(a woman and a car accident?Go figure.) and there is a girl you know laughing her heart out. You swear loudly when the lady doesn't even check if you are ok.
4. Both time´s hurt my ego more than my physical self.
5. The second one more than the first
6. I didn't mind the teasing in 6th grade, I found it entertaining.
7. When bored, I do nothing, then I realize how much time I just wasted
8. By the time I do, it's way past too late.

Memoir Monday: Graves, Homework, and People.

Dirt, rust, leaves, twigs, they grasp to my shoe, and they cling there. I extricate my foot from a hole I myself dug, my father and brother are there, yet my mind is not on them. Not on the graves we are hunting for, but the grave I dug for myself. The metal detector in my hand is silent as I sweep it along, a foot above the ground. The knowledge that I was screwed had slowly instilled itself in me, all the work I had not done was going to hit me like a tidal wave, anger and the most pathetic form of self-pity would encompass me. I was the victim of my own guile, of my own “BS” as people love to call it when they talk to me.

Then metal detector goes crazy, and I sweep it back to where it was before, iron, probably just a pipe or something, but that's not up for me to decide. I take a shovel and I slam it down to the ground, but the strength and the enthusiasm that I usually can summon fails me, and it slams in miserably. Bill makes a comment about how my generation has no backbone, but what people think of all the idiots at school is not an imperative issue to me.

My dad looks at me with a look of disappointment and worry, but I know it will not compare to his look on Monday. The idea of just skipping school recurs in my mind constantly, to escape my doom. He takes the shovel, and starts to dig up in the place my brother indicated, prevalent as it is. In an act of spontaneity and rage, I took the other shovel, and started to dig up in a spot we had already dug up. The shovel sliced through the dirt, splitting through it's layers of life, the roots, and breaking them into pieces. I stare at what we had uncovered earlier. Strangely enough, a foot under the layer of soil was concrete, with a rusty piece of metal sticking out, stuck in the concrete.

We were digging here because next to Bills house, the one's whose garden we were wreaking havoc on, they had found dozens of French graves, with only numbers on them, keeping the casualties anonymous. Chances are I live not only next to two graveyards, but on one.
Creepy.

I stare down at the concrete, knowing that this could have been part of some suckers grave, and that the rusty trash metal was likely part of a grave marker which had been ripped up and dumped in the pile next door all those years ago. I wonder what it would be like, just to not have to worry about anything, about all the school, all the drama, all the stuck up idiots, all the sensitive retards. It could be nice, in a way, just to escape all the crap in life. Then I look back at the green of my neighbourhood, random people are going through the streets, and I remember back to my friends who are all around the world.

What a stupid idea.
Now to go back to my disposition of a cynical, sarcastic, arrogant, but damn happy individual, and pick up the damn shovel.

The Paper

Holding my light computer with only two of my fingers, I sit down at the bar top we have in the lounge, I can tell this is serious. If a look could kill... My father pauses, and then checks back to see if my mom is out of earshot. I know I am dead, I know I can't do anything about it, I regret the endless hours of procrastination already, and I await my demise.I brace expecting the worst(figured out over the years that when you expect the worst all the time, the second to worst feels much better) He doesn't sigh, scream, or shout, he just pulls out the paper, and unfolds it, it's an email and oh...
Oh shit.
I am so screwed, I await a hail of arguments about how I spend too much time goofing off, a hail of shouts shot straight at me.
But there are none.
"Fix this, and I won't tell your mother about it"
I love my dad.
Especially when he knows exactly what I need to survive.

Confession Tuesday

1. Last week I pretended to be sick on multiple occasions to skip class. :(
2. I've spent at least three times more time on Skype talking than doing homework.
3. I sleep half the hours I should.
4. I have on multiple occasions moved into a corner where I can steal the neighbours connection after my father turns off our internet.
5. I've walked downstairs on weekends, picked up my heavy duty slingshot, and seriously considered killing the same dogs who wake me up every Saturday.
6. I hate most sweets, I will only eat chocolate(no white chocolate, blergh) and gum.
7. I always pretend to be busy, gone, asleep or angry just so I won't have to speak with people who irritate me.
8.Yeah, you irritate me.
9. I've repeatedly watched a Youtube video over and over again for over 2 hours, don't judge me.
10. I wish my friends would stop writing about Skype, it's boring.

I Don't Complain

I sit here,
I hate it,
this office.
It's not the place itself,
I mean, it looks disgusting,
but it's not the place.

Sweat runs down my neck,
Sweat in an air conditioned room,
Basketball uniform in a tidy place,
I sit,
Still taller
Still taller than some of the people walking by

None of them,
None of them who I need,
To get the hell out of here.

From The Vulture's Eye.

I sit still, it's the eighth day now, the eighth day that he has been trying to deceive me. I know not why, but I surmised that he was after me, despite his friendly attitude during the day time, something was wrong. Now I know.

I do not know what bothered him, I had been friendly, I had simulated a resort even, making him feel at home. I am not a sound sleeper, when he had shone the light on my eye, the eye that he seems to despise, I could tell. Dehydration might be what is driving him, this far west, but I had corroborated that he was mad long ago. His endeavor in life was to kill me, I knew that now, and I knew that if I screamed, if I yelled, that figure clad in black at my door would pounce.

He is not cursory in his manner of murder, I have sat here for long. Yet, I have derived that tonight would be the night; I should have called the police, I could of. I grimaced as light shone into my eye, and I gingerly moved for my baseball bat lying far across the room. Too far, damn. I make an inventory in my mind of things I could use to protect myself, or better, kill him. Yet, I find nothing. Please god, let the neighbours see the light. Suddenly his bloods shot eyes tighten, and he jumps toward me. I use the least amount of breath I possibly can to shriek, to try to warn the neighbours, for the police to come.

I have lived my life, but I can't let this madman live his. I punch and scratch and bite and there are abrasions all over him, yet he won't give up. I need to let the police find him, for I can already feel the end coming. He hits me and I land face down on the ground, the pain electrifies me. I feel one of my last teeth come loose, not dead yet though, not yet. Now I roll over, just in time to see my bed come down towards me, to put me to sleep one last time. There are colors, noises, and images flooding my head, final dreams flying past.

And then… there are none.

No, I Am not Intrested in your Youtube Video.

I'm good at it,making belief, failing to listen.
Pretending I am actually listening in class,
Pretending I can't find my reading log,
Pretending I actually care when one of my friends is talking to me about something that has nothing to do with me
Pretending I am paying any attention to advice.
Pretending I believe what people are talking about.

Yet when I want to talk to someone, I will.
I will go on and on and on.
Keep on talking until they
are either overwhelmed with words
Or bored to death.
Or they themselves,
Pretend they care.

Trust me,
When I want to talk to someone,
I will, and I will do it well to.
And sometimes when it seems
I am ignoring you
I am busy,
I'm sorry.
And when "Nick is gone"
Nick is ignoring you.
Remember that.

This Year

This Year:

The names that flicker across my screen confuse me, For they are of friends long gone The friends which I cannot remember. My memories are blurred and destroyed, as for the images contain,
They are as fragmented as my laptop screen.
This year I hope to remember, I hope to fix what was broken
This year I hope for people not to notice I am pretending to remember them.

The binder explodes, papers scurry across the floor
Escaping the hell they live in.
My room is a battlefield, the binder's blood is splattered over the floor,
Yet I cannot will myself to care.
This year I hope for organization.

The papers lie there, dead,
Victims of procrastination
My delight and my demise.
This year I hope to be free of stress,
And have my work done on time.

The wireless is off,
Dead, dark, nothing,
The night has no meaning,At least not any more.
Yet, as my internet spikes
From my neighbour's connection.
I know I will stay longer.
I know I will stay too long.
This year, I hope to be responsible
enough to just fall asleep.

Avatar.

.
Avatar

A large, invasive force lands on a distant location, not caring if they have to knock down the natives if it means they get to the resources they want. The native people are out-gunned, with hundreds of trained US forces in their homeland. In James Cameron's Avatar, a few thousand ex-US marines land of a distant planet called Pandora. They are not there because the native people, the Na'vi are any threat to them, they are there for cash. "Look, killing the indigenous looks bad, but you know what's worse, having to say I did nothing on my quarterly report" says Parker Selfridge(Giovanni Ribisi). This can easily be parallel to George Bush's invasion of Iraq, going in for an valuable resource trying to "minimize innocent casualties" but only really caring about getting the oil companies.

Avatar takes place on a distant planet named Pandora, when Jake Sully(Sam Worthington), an ex-marine who was paralyzed in combat lands to take part in a program named AVATAR. This program is run so the science team pilots hybrid bodies, with both human and native Na'vi DNA, their mission is to try to find out what will make the Na'vi move from their home, which, surprise, surprise is directly on top of the largest unobtanium deposit within hundreds of miles, employed by the RDA(, they have to try to get a diplomatic solution or it will be a military act that makes the Na'vi evacuate. Jake, on his very first mission piloting his AVATAR he gets separated from the main group and meets a Na'vi named Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). She leads him to the Na'vi tribe, where he meets the tribe. After a brief argument over if they should kill Jake or not, they decide to keep him alive and try to teach him the ways of their people. His life is soon starting to break up, with his nights asleep in his human body and with the day as a sleek alien native. After extensive training as one of the Na'vi, he gets has to pass a test. The Na'vi fly on creatures called Ikran, they will only ride with one hunter in their lifetime, but they are hard to catch, and they must choose you as well as you must choose them. Jake, an outsider, a hard-headed marine manages to catch one, making him fully part of the Na'vi tribe. He and Neytiri, who trained him realise that they are in love, and mate. Unfortunately nearly directly after this event, the RDA launches a attack on the Na'vi's village, a gigantic tree. The Na'vi blame this on Jake, and he is forced to catch Toruk, the biggest bird in the sky to redeem himself as part of the Na'vi. In his human body, Jake and the science team escape the facility.
Jake,Dr.Grace Augustine's(Sigourney Weaver)science team, and the ship driver Trudy Chacon(Michelle Rodriguez) will now have to fight for Pandora along side the Na'vi. Yet up against the RDA's manager , Parker Selfridge(Giovanni Ribisi) and his blood-thristy military dog Colonel Miles Quaritch(Stephen Lang), this will be no easy task, especially because Quaritch is aiming to destroy the Na'vi's culture. The Na'vi people will have to fight for not only their own lives, but Pandora itself if they wish to survive. Of course, the thought of the riches of un-obtanium is pushing every marine in the RDA to destroy whatever gets in their way. Will the Na'vi be able to stop the RDA from ruining Pandora? Or will Jake and the Na'vi perish at the hands of the invaders?

Although the plot was not too original, James Cameron managed to produce an entertaining movie that also has meaning, it took him thirteen years, but its out now . The message about colonization and stealing resources was a one for all to see. The CGI(computer generated images) made it entertaining to watch, with the exotic, beautiful world of Pandora being amazingly generated, and the message about life today can keep you thinking after you have watched the movie. James Cameron could have gone for a better plot, but the main point of the movie was not only to make an entertaining motion picture, but to spread a message to the world.(Avatar is the most expensive movie ever made, people are bound to watch it). The movie's message was blunt, obvious, but it was blunt so everyone would get the meaning behind the story. It's not such a coincidence that he made all the RDA American.

Watching Avatar is like stepping into a new, amazing world, full of lush, exotic fauna and flora. James Cameron managed to convey an amazing world, you will jump back when a predator attacks, and your mouth will drop at the sight of the dazzling plants of Pandora. Never before has a director managed to literally drag you in to such a fantastic world, the 3D and CGI caused the movie to seem almost real, with amazing uses of animal audio, and more realistic characters, Avatar could even be considered "pretty" to watch.

Big fans of CGI, welcome to paradise, but this movie isn't all spectacular special effects, James Camerons Avatar has meaning behind it, and is worth watching for any movie go-er. Avatar's world is a spectacle in itself, the movie is too long, but delivers a powerful message about the world today.

Alice In Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland(2010) is due to release on Friday, March 5,2010. The movie takes place years after the events in the book, Alice(Mia Wasikowska) is now 19 years old, and seems to have completely forgotten the past events, or is ignoring it as a childish dream. It will be interesting with The White Queen(Anne Hathaway), The Mad Hatter(Johnny Depp) and Alice going into battle against the Red Queen's(Helena Bonham Carter) army. Directed by Tim Burton, the movie is in his classic "gloomy" style, and although Burton has directed lighter, happier movies such as Charlie In The Chocolate Factory, but he has also directed more gray and dark movies such as Sweeney Todd, It is going to be an interesting mix. and with Tim's close friend and great actor Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, it will be worth waiting to see how Burton and Depp work together in Wonderland.

The Princess and The Frog review.

The Princess and The Frog.

"You're a waitress!??" Said Prince Naveen to Tiana, a look of disgust on his frog face. Disney's The Princess and The Frog takes a huge twist on the classic fairytale about a frog prince. Set in New Orleans, The Princess and The Frog is full of music, food, and fun.In a more modern time(Possibly from the 1900-1930s) this movie is easier to relate to. The main character Tiana(voice acted by Anika Nani Rose) is a more believable character over Disney's past Princesses. The animation is superb, and the fact that it is not CGI is a very welcome change. The fact that Tiana is Disney's first African American princess.

Tiana has always had a passion, and has held back on fun and friends to accomplish that dream, for years and years, she has worked twice as hard as any other person to open a restaurant. Yet when she finally has the money, the people who are selling her the area tell her the deals of unless she can get more money at a fancy dress party. She stands on a balcony in a princesses outfit and wishes to a star for help. Now meanwhile, Prince Naveen got turned into a frog by a voodoo master and has ran to the party. They meet on the balcony, the princess and the frog, and after only a short scene of screaming and cruelty to animals, they kiss under the stars. Yet when the sparkles clear, it is not a Prince who is standing next to a princess, no. The spell backfires, leaving both Tiana and Naveen as frogs, In their desperation they head to the Bayou in search of Mama Odi, a voodoo master of good. Unfortunately, the same Voodoo master who turned Naveen into a frog is hot on their heels, literally in search of Naveen's blood, with the dark voodoo forces chasing them it will be hard to return human.

The animation of the Princess and the Frog is splendid, with astounding effects, how the characters were drawn to represent their personality amazing and creative ways to create spectacles out of such simple things. The mere fact that this movie was animated classically, there were no CGI effects used brings back a more magical feeling to the Disney movie. With new concepts such as a first African American princess(still waiting for a prince), it makes this movie revolutionary on all fronts.

The Princess and The Frog is defiantly worth watching, Ron Clements and John Musker's animation teams did a splendid job, the music really pushed the movie along, giving it that more magical sense to it. With a more classical Disney animation style, and covering more modern concepts, it is a movie you can't miss. The best Disney movie in many years, The Princess and The Frog is a hilarious, well plotted ride all the way from the start to finish.

Pheobe In Wonderland

` ` Pheobe In Wonderland
Directed by Daniel Barnz Nicholas Brands Smit.
"Do you sometimes feel like your running but not going anywhere," She is sprinting next to the Queen, she is panting, but her destination was still no closer. She loses her balance and falls, and when she looks up, their is no queen to be seen, and her mother is running from the house to help her. Pheobe Lichten(Elle Fanning),is an imaginative, yet troubled girl. This movie tells the fictional story of a young girl with Tourettes syndrome. It is a strong story, yet it contains a few minor flaws.

Pheobe Lichten has a problem, a huge problem, she cannot control what she says. She is pulled into wonderland when she signs up for the play, and soon her imagination is clashing with reality. Although Pheobe is happily progressing with the play, there is trouble on the home front, and with an increasingly stressed out mother(Felicity Huffman), an angry father(Bill Pullman), and a unhappy sister(Bailee Madison), Phoebe will have fix her own life before conquering the world of wonderland.

The story of a girl with this syndrome merged with fantasy makes an inspiring story of hope, imagination, and emotion, yet a few flaws perge the story, but not enough to make its message weakened. For example, the teachers are exaggeratedly ignorant of what'd happenning to Pheobe, its like they can't see that their is something different about her. Another prime example is when the teacher sends Pheobe to the principals after spitting at a kid, the whole class was taunting her, and even if she didn't have the syndrome, the teacher made a bad decision. Yet it doesn't matter how much minor flaws with this movie was, it still contained a strong purpose and storyline about a girl with a powerful imagination and alot of dedication to her world.

Off with 'er head," the Queen says, although it was had powerfull lines and very good acting on the part of Elle Fanning, the Fantasy in this movie wasn't too strong, it was hard to tell if it was just her imagination, or if it really was magic. The story is appealing, the message about growing up, changing, and overcoming the problems in life is clear. It may be strange to watch if \you haven't read (or watched) Alice In Wonderland(Originaly named Alice's Adventures In Wonderland-Lewis Caroll) because characters will be unreconizable, making the movie hard to understand, making it have a smaller audience.

In my honest opinion, Pheobe in wonderland is worth watching even if just to remember the timeless novel of Alice In Wonderland, but I will not be jumping out of my seat to watch it again, it was an OK movie, worth renting a DVD to watch but it does even come close or live up to the timeless story that Pheobe imagination is based off.
