A large, invasive force lands on a distant location, not caring if they have to knock down the natives if it means they get to the resources they want. The native people are out-gunned, with hundreds of trained US forces in their homeland. In James Cameron's Avatar, a few thousand ex-US marines land of a distant planet called Pandora. They are not there because the native people, the Na'vi are any threat to them, they are there for cash. "Look, killing the indigenous looks bad, but you know what's worse, having to say I did nothing on my quarterly report" says Parker Selfridge(Giovanni Ribisi). This can easily be parallel to George Bush's invasion of Iraq, going in for an valuable resource trying to "minimize innocent casualties" but only really caring about getting the oil companies.

Avatar takes place on a distant planet named Pandora, when Jake Sully(Sam Worthington), an ex-marine who was paralyzed in combat lands to take part in a program named AVATAR. This program is run so the science team pilots hybrid bodies, with both human and native Na'vi DNA, their mission is to try to find out what will make the Na'vi move from their home, which, surprise, surprise is directly on top of the largest unobtanium deposit within hundreds of miles, employed by the RDA(, they have to try to get a diplomatic solution or it will be a military act that makes the Na'vi evacuate. Jake, on his very first mission piloting his AVATAR he gets separated from the main group and meets a Na'vi named Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). She leads him to the Na'vi tribe, where he meets the tribe. After a brief argument over if they should kill Jake or not, they decide to keep him alive and try to teach him the ways of their people. His life is soon starting to break up, with his nights asleep in his human body and with the day as a sleek alien native. After extensive training as one of the Na'vi, he gets has to pass a test. The Na'vi fly on creatures called Ikran, they will only ride with one hunter in their lifetime, but they are hard to catch, and they must choose you as well as you must choose them. Jake, an outsider, a hard-headed marine manages to catch one, making him fully part of the Na'vi tribe. He and Neytiri, who trained him realise that they are in love, and mate. Unfortunately nearly directly after this event, the RDA launches a attack on the Na'vi's village, a gigantic tree. The Na'vi blame this on Jake, and he is forced to catch Toruk, the biggest bird in the sky to redeem himself as part of the Na'vi. In his human body, Jake and the science team escape the facility.

Jake,Dr.Grace Augustine's(Sigourney Weaver)science team, and the ship driver Trudy Chacon(Michelle Rodriguez) will now have to fight for Pandora along side the Na'vi. Yet up against the RDA's manager , Parker Selfridge(Giovanni Ribisi) and his blood-thristy military dog Colonel Miles Quaritch(Stephen Lang), this will be no easy task, especially because Quaritch is aiming to destroy the Na'vi's culture. The Na'vi people will have to fight for not only their own lives, but Pandora itself if they wish to survive. Of course, the thought of the riches of un-obtanium is pushing every marine in the RDA to destroy whatever gets in their way. Will the Na'vi be able to stop the RDA from ruining Pandora? Or will Jake and the Na'vi perish at the hands of the invaders?

Although the plot was not too original, James Cameron managed to produce an entertaining movie that also has meaning, it took him thirteen years, but its out now . The message about colonization and stealing resources was a one for all to see. The CGI(computer generated images) made it entertaining to watch, with the exotic, beautiful world of Pandora being amazingly generated, and the message about life today can keep you thinking after you have watched the movie. James Cameron could have gone for a better plot, but the main point of the movie was not only to make an entertaining motion picture, but to spread a message to the world.(Avatar is the most expensive movie ever made, people are bound to watch it). The movie's message was blunt, obvious, but it was blunt so everyone would get the meaning behind the story. It's not such a coincidence that he made all the RDA American.

Watching Avatar is like stepping into a new, amazing world, full of lush, exotic fauna and flora. James Cameron managed to convey an amazing world, you will jump back when a predator attacks, and your mouth will drop at the sight of the dazzling plants of Pandora. Never before has a director managed to literally drag you in to such a fantastic world, the 3D and CGI caused the movie to seem almost real, with amazing uses of animal audio, and more realistic characters, Avatar could even be considered "pretty" to watch.

Big fans of CGI, welcome to paradise, but this movie isn't all spectacular special effects, James Camerons Avatar has meaning behind it, and is worth watching for any movie go-er. Avatar's world is a spectacle in itself, the movie is too long, but delivers a powerful message about the world today.
