An Embarrassing Defeat
“Seventy-two, forty-three, eighty, ninety-nine, fifty-four; oops a typo, fifty-six.”
This was pathetic; I refused to believe these guys were in high school, Australia was ahead, of America by one point, reaching the “amazing” score of two, while Brazil was trying to catch up with the one in the lead-by almost 30 points- Panama.
Huh, no way they’re going to catch up now, “five, four, three, two, one, and zero!” I win again.
I had to find a new challenge so I pressed play again. “What, all Americans??” I thought aloud. Whatever, it said one of them was in fourth grade, so this should be smooth.
I typed quick but careful, Then stopped to take a slurp of my Coke. When I looked up, I was shocked; the fourth grader- the one I hadn’t been watching had caught up and went in front of me on the scales. Dang, I tried to type in the few Q&A that would bring me up, but too late. I gawped at the results; I had been defeated by a mere fourth grader- after slaughtering High Schoolers from all over the world, this kid had beaten me.

Another Slice Of Life
Swear words were everywhere. “Felipe for ****’s sake, defend!!” I shouted; I jumped right before Emilio- who is about six inches taller than me, and at least three years older- he saw the danger as he jumped; for a moment we were at the same height; he tried to score but I slammed the ball away in a final attempt to stop them scoring.
It went flying towards one of my teammates, but somehow Emilio pulled it out of the air in front of him. Felipe seemed to have woken up and was running to help. But it was too late Emilio took one, two, three, four, five steps behind the three point line; as my team was about to take the ball, he quickly shot. The ball seemed to be in slow motion, flying over all of us….
No sound, then a long set of swearwords followed, but not from Emilio’s team. I replayed the memory again in my head, unbelievable, it was a swish, a nothing but net. “We may have lost this battle, but we will win the war” I heard Felipe say. Although he is older than me, I kind of felt like punching him.
Look How I feel
A Slice Of Life
My arms felt heavy, my legs felt weak, I felt like crap. This morning I had woken up as usual coughing, no big deal. Now for some reason I felt terrible, my head was screaming for painkillers, I needed medication. Shame my dad suspected I was faking; I would not get any medical items. As usual I looked in the mirror like every time I feel sorry for myself.
Such a Shame
Slice Of Life.
“Wow...,” I thought, “Mathieu is on a pro spree.” Matthew dodged left and right, it looked like he had entered the matrix mode: he deflected, ducked under, and managed to jump out of the way of anything that was thrown at him.
Sounds of frustration came from: Eduardo, Sean, and Brian (About a minute had passed of them against him) who were failing to get him out.
Boom, foot shot! Brian, as usual tried to make an excuse but Brian was sent to the window.
“Matheiu might win” I heard someone say. I was about to agree when He got hit in the foot. Oh, such a shame, If he had actually won, it would have been great.

SOLT
I walked through the hallway backpack slung around my arm I kicked the door and walked out of the school, the horde straight behind me, the buzz started as soon as we hit fresh air. "happy birthday Dai..." I walked towards the buses " the dragon thing was awka..." I looked for my bus but it wasn't they're. I rescanned the buses, but no big white bus 16. "NICHOLAS,Nicholas." I spun around to see my bus monitor standing next to a tiny yellow bus. I sighed and got onto the bus, It was nearly full except for the back. So I jumped over Miguel, who had dedicated himself to stop anyone from passing by sticking out his foot- blocking the way. I sat down ready for the short ride home, It was Wednesday, and I had no activities today so I actually had a chance to finish all my homework before 8:00 at night. As usual swearwords where everywhere when Chris got, ranting on the quality of the bus. Compared how much homework we had with the highschoolers and made it home.

Memoir Monday Paintball Party
As I looked for my remaining allies I realized there were none and I was “last man standing”. I made my way across the field sprinting as bullets bounced off the pillars around me dyeing it yellow with paint. I slid a few meters shooting with my gun at full rate, I saw an enemy get pegged in the leg by my fire and for that moment I felt like some guy from the matrix, that moment was broken as I felt my back hit the fence.
“Shoot him” Mathew screamed, too late, Matthew didn’t need to tell them. I felt a bullet hit me as I threw myself behind the nearest cover, and I grimaced as I saw my armor was yellow. I stood up as I held my gun up high signaling that I was down. I nearly dropped it on my foot as I realized who had gotten me out, one of the girls had taken me and worse, she was new to the game. I heard Mathew start to laugh but I gave him such a menacing look he stopped as quickly as he started. Game over.
I realized that no matter how much experience you had in something, people can still beat you at it, and that I took games far too seriously. this realization changed me. I now dont really care much about winning or loosing only having fun.

A Slice of Life

January 22 2009
I stepped into the wolf room, my head burning with pain. January 20 2009 the day when president Obama, the first black president would be sworn in. All day I had heard people talking about how he was going to to be shot, but it was halfway through his speech that our school was watching and a bullet hadn't been fired. I would have been happy but my head was hurting from the big screen and all the noise.
I carefully stepped through the large crowd of 5th and 6th graders on the floor and sat down in my spot in the back row.
Obama started to speak again, "We need to change...." I held my head as a jolt of pain hit me, "I say now we the United States of....." I hear people talking in front of me about how he was stuttering a bit, i wanted to object but before I could my head, started to fell like it was about to explode, suddenly Obama finishes his speech. I perk up to see if anything happened, but no Obama finishes with "god bless". I start thinking about the words he said in his speech and I know that no matter how good a president could be the Americans would need to help every bit as much as they wanted to, to save this collapsing world in the next 4 years.

The first time

I remember not really caring too much about New Years but then again nobody can blame me if it took place like this every single year,
Sounds pretty boring, doesn’t it? You know why? Because it was boring, for us it was just another day, except the next day the world would be in a new year, that’s all. That changed when we came to
"God I wish Evert was here” I thought. I was surrounded by strangers, and my brother the sloth head had ditched the party to sleep, the only person I knew was Alex and even he seemed uneasy, he was with a group of kids who looked around my age or a bit older but I felt too shy to move. Someone poked me in the back, I spun around to see a boy I recognized from my grade holding a lighter and a huge chain of explosives, a wide grin on his face.
“Can I watch?” I blurted out. He laughed and said sternly “no!” I was about to let out a deep sigh when he said “but you can light one.” My face lit up as he handed me the tools of destruction (AKA Lighter and fireworks).
Now if you ever catch me saying my first firework light up was a great one, I’m lying, I half threw it half dropped it as I realized I had lit it on the much shorter end. The mess caused some amusement so I was called over with Alex and the kid who gave me the chain to tell the teens and the others what happened. Turns out this was for the better because by the end of the New Years Eve we were all playing as one big group.
This changed me, I the shy boy I once had been evaporated as I was placed in a large group. After being in
