Slice Of Life
An Embarrassing Defeat
“Seventy-two, forty-three, eighty, ninety-nine, fifty-four; oops a typo, fifty-six.”
This was pathetic; I refused to believe these guys were in high school, Australia was ahead, of America by one point, reaching the “amazing” score of two, while Brazil was trying to catch up with the one in the lead-by almost 30 points- Panama.
Huh, no way they’re going to catch up now, “five, four, three, two, one, and zero!” I win again.
I had to find a new challenge so I pressed play again. “What, all Americans??” I thought aloud. Whatever, it said one of them was in fourth grade, so this should be smooth.
I typed quick but careful, Then stopped to take a slurp of my Coke. When I looked up, I was shocked; the fourth grader- the one I hadn’t been watching had caught up and went in front of me on the scales. Dang, I tried to type in the few Q&A that would bring me up, but too late. I gawped at the results; I had been defeated by a mere fourth grader- after slaughtering High Schoolers from all over the world, this kid had beaten me.
