A Slice of Life

January 22 2009
I stepped into the wolf room, my head burning with pain. January 20 2009 the day when president Obama, the first black president would be sworn in. All day I had heard people talking about how he was going to to be shot, but it was halfway through his speech that our school was watching and a bullet hadn't been fired. I would have been happy but my head was hurting from the big screen and all the noise.
I carefully stepped through the large crowd of 5th and 6th graders on the floor and sat down in my spot in the back row.
Obama started to speak again, "We need to change...." I held my head as a jolt of pain hit me, "I say now we the United States of....." I hear people talking in front of me about how he was stuttering a bit, i wanted to object but before I could my head, started to fell like it was about to explode, suddenly Obama finishes his speech. I perk up to see if anything happened, but no Obama finishes with "god bless". I start thinking about the words he said in his speech and I know that no matter how good a president could be the Americans would need to help every bit as much as they wanted to, to save this collapsing world in the next 4 years.

  1. Wow! Your writing is so powerful.
I agree that we all have a big job ahead of us. Just imagine the weight that he is feeling upon his shoulders.

  3. Nicholas,
I like how you talked about how you were feeling during the inauguration and how you weren't afraid to talk about the rumor about a shot being fired. I wouldn't have been able to. I admire your courage!

  4. Awesome slice of life, it was even better than your memoir. And i thought that was impossible! I know how it felt like when people were talking about how Obama would get shot, or how he was stuttering. It was so annoying because they were acting as if they could do better.

    Anyway, awesome slice of life.
